WooCommerce adds breadcrumbs to each and every product page whether you like it or not.
Some people like these breadcrumbs, while some don’t.
I never liked them. So I wanted to remove WooCommerce breadcrumbs from day one.
But there was a problem…
The Problem With Removing WooCommerce Breadcrumbs
To do any sort of customization in WooCommerce, including removing the breadcrumbs, you have to write code.
I am not a developer!
I cannot write code!
So I had to depend on others to write code for me.
But this was even more problematic!
Things change rapidly in the online world. So there is no guarantee that a piece of code written today will work tomorrow.
This meant that I was going to be dependent on someone else for a very long time.
And I hated that.
This is why I started to search for ways to remove the WooCommerce breadcrumbs without writing any code.
And if you are reading this tutorial, then I am sure you understand what I am saying.
There has to be a “way” for us to enable or disable things in WooCommerce without having to write a bunch of code.
The only problem is “finding that way”.
Well…
I found two “ways” to remove WooCommerce breadcrumbs and here they are…
Both these methods work well, so pick the one that works best for you.
Let me show you now how both these methods work…
But before I do that, let me tell you that if you still prefer to use code, then here’s a code snippet to remove WooCommerce breadcrumbs.
Okay!
With that out of the way, let’s move on with this tutorial…
METHOD 1: Remove WooCommerce Breadcrumbs By Using a Plugin
You can use a free plugin like WooCommerce Breadcrumbs to remove the breadcrumbs.
Just install the plugin and then go to Settings > WC Breadcrumbs in your WordPress Admin Panel.
You will land on the WooCommerce Breadcrumbs page. On this page, uncheck the “Enable breadcrumbs” checkbox and click the Save Changes button to remove the breadcrumbs from all product pages.
This method of removing the breadcrumbs works really well if you don’t want to change your theme.
However, there is a problem with using such free plugins.
The plugin developer can stop developing the plugin at any time which means you are stuck with an outdated plugin.
Since such plugins are free to use, there is no monetary incentive for the developer to put in efforts for supporting the plugin.
Not earning money for your efforts is a big problem. After all, you have to put food on the table too at the end of the day and free plugins don’t directly help in doing that. So you cannot really blame the developer for abandoning the plugin.
Okay, fair enough!
But how do you overcome this problem now?
Well…
You can look at buying a premium paid plugin that would help you to remove WooCommerce breadcrumbs.
However, spending money on a plugin that just helps you to do a few things is not worth the money in my opinion.
Ideally, I would recommend spending money on plugins that do a whole lot more than just a few things.
So what is the alternative now?
How about changing your theme?
METHOD 2: Remove WooCommerce Breadcrumbs By Using a Theme
In this second method, instead of using a plugin to remove the breadcrumbs, you will use a WordPress theme that will help you to do this.
One such theme is the Astra theme.
It is a free theme!
Hmmm…
I know what you are thinking…
What I said just now for the free plugins, doesn’t it apply to free themes as well?
What if the developer decides to stop developing the theme?
Well…
That is why I recommended Astra theme and not any other theme.
Astra theme is developed by Brainstorm Force which has been developing WordPress themes, plugins, and websites for more than 10+ years now.
And more interestingly, a big chunk of their business model revolves around the free Astra theme.
Astra theme comes with a good set of features and if you want even more features, then you can always buy the Astra Pro plugin which adds a ton of features to the Astra theme.
I bought Astra Pro plugin the day it launched and I know many people who have bought it too.
So it is unlikely that a company like Brainstorm Force will go out of business and stop supporting Astra theme.
You can use the free Astra theme without any worries because it will make your life a lot easier while working with WooCommerce.
Okay, with that said, now let’s see how you can use Astra theme to hide the WooCommerce breadcrumbs.
You will first need to install and activate the Astra theme. If you don’t know how to do this, then here’s a small tutorial.
Once you have activated the Astra theme, go to the front-end of your website and then click the Customize link in the top admin bar…
This will open up the WordPress Customizer panel. In this panel, go to Layout > WooCommerce > Single Product, select the “Disable Breadcrumb” checkbox and click the Publish button.
This will remove the breadcrumbs from all WooCommerce product pages.
Great!
You have now successfully disabled the WooCommerce breadcrumbs.
Okay, but now what?
Getting More Out Of Astra Theme
Astra theme along with Astra Pro plugin allows you to do a whole lot more than just disabling the WooCommerce breadcrumbs.
Astra Pro plugin comes with a WooCommerce module that tightly integrates the Astra theme with WooCommerce and lets you have greater control over customizing WooCommerce.
Check out the various things that Astra Pro lets you do with WooCommerce…
So I would recommend that you seriously consider getting the Astra Pro plugin.
It will make your life a lot easy while working with WooCommerce.

- Setting Side-Wide Fonts and Colors,
- Creating a Transparent Header,
- Have Tighter Integration with Page Builder Plugins like Beaver Builder, Elementor, etc.,

…and I have barely scratched the surface of what Astra Pro can do!
